When and where is the conference?

The conference traditionally takes place on a Friday in early March.  While it has been hosted by the University of Portland and Willamette University in previous years, Western Oregon University is our current conference host institution.

Who participates in the César E. Chávez Leadership Conference?

Conference attendance is limited to a limited number of high schools and school districts. You can see the full listing of participating schools here.

How do I participate if I am not with an affiliated school or organization?

If your school is not listed, we can add your school information to a waiting list and we will inform you by late January, whether space is available and your school can participate. Individual student registration is not permitted.

If you are a community member, member of the media, or not affiliated with a participating organization as a conference speaker, presenter or exhibitor; you will need to receive participation approval from the conference board of directors.  There is no day of conference registration available.  Anyone without proof of registration will not be allowed to participate in the conference.

What is the conference fee to participate?

There is a fee of $35 per conference participant.  Participating schools and districts or billed directly and provided with an invoice once participants have been confirmed via conference registration.

How can I sign up to be a vendor or exhibitor?

Online exhibitor registration opens in early December, providing participating exhibitors plenty of advance notice and time to make arrangements to be involved. The college/career fair will be one of the sessions that students will be required to attend.  Our goal is not only to provide them with information, but also for them to meet role models and to hear from YOU regarding what they need to do in order to be competitive in the work world.

The conference schedule is from 8:00am-4:00pm, however the sessions (including the fair) will run from 10am-2:00pm with a lunch break in between.  Your $300 registration fee will cover lunch for two representatives.  You may purchase additional lunches for $8 each. The income we generate from these fees will be used to cover conference expenses and will also go towards our scholarship fund.

Who organizes the César E. Chávez Leadership Conference?

The César E. Chávez Leadership Conference (CECLC) began 22 years ago as a gathering of Hispanic high school students from the Portland Public Schools.

Prior to the transition of its current stature, the CECLC was part of a larger Latino advocacy group known as Hispanics in Unity for Oregon (HIUFO).  The conference planning committee is composed of representatives from the participating high schools and school districts, community leaders, and institutions of higher education.
